Venice of the Future

Another assignment from Illustration for Motion was to create an isometric drawing of a futuristic city. We were given a few different cities to choose from, but I decided on Venice because I thought the canals and waterways would prove to be a fun challenge.

This was my initial sketch for my futuristic Venice:

And then I roughly blocked in some colors:

I felt things were getting a bit chaotic however as there were too many buildings and it was hard to know where to look. I did some editing and simplified to top level, removing the large domes. I also toned the saturation down a bit and darkened the blue background to increase the contrast.

I really enjoy my futuristic gondolas with headlamps.

I think I made this assignment more complicated than it needed to be by adding so many buildings and bridges, but I really like the final result.
